Attorneys who practice labor law work in all types of legal employment. They might work on behalf of the union in order to negotiate a contract with an employer.

A labor lawyer might be an employee, or they might work in private practice and offer services to the union or employer on a contract basis.

Finding a solid lawyer who can help you review your employment contract efficiently isn’t always easy. Don’t expect to find a good lawyer by just doing a Google search or reading an advertisement (unless you have a lot of time to kill). There’s simply not enough information in those outlets to help you make an valid judgement.

Never use templates found online, or anywhere, because you don’t know who has drafted those templates. You could pay for a template and it be completely out of date in terms of regulations and standards. Laws are always changing and it is important that you use up-to-date legal documents that can and will figure in future legal developments.

When it comes to drafting contracts, there will be specific legal matters that will arise where your business will need help navigating these complex and unique situations.

The choice of lawyer to review an employment contract is determined by the country in which the employee and the employer reside –

a. If the employer and employee is located in say, Costa Rica then a Costa Rican lawyer can review the employment contracts.

b. If the employee is located in one country and the employer is located in another country, the applicable law is still that of the country in which the employee resides.

Then of course, before engaging any lawyer you should determine the level of expertise and experience of that lawyer.
